Team Singapore made a strong start to their 33rd SEA Games campaign with a 13–1 win against Laos in Men’s Baseball. A delay caused by bad weather did little to dampen the athletes’ spirits, as Singapore (11th in Asia) delivered a lively and confident performance to defeat Laos (10th in Asia) at  at the Queen Sirikit Sports Centre on the opening day of the Games.

An assured defensive showing, powerful pitching by 21-year-old Jyoji Ito, and strong batting from Andre Chia, Naeem Bin Zahrin, Mohamad Danis Bin Mohamad Azminin, Ean Eu, and Singapore’s first professional baseball player Kohei Wong ensured that the team controlled the game from start to finish, holding Laos to just a single point.

The Men’s Baseball team will now look to carry today’s energy, teamwork, and camaraderie into their next match against defending SEA Games champions, the Philippines, on 7 December. A positive result would place Team Singapore in a strong position for a podium finish.
