The women’s floorball team were beaten 2-1 by Thailand in a tightly-contested final on Friday (Dec 19).
Singapore had won gold for three straight editions of the SEA Games that featured floorball – 2015, 2019 and 2023.
Thailand drew first blood early in the first period through Rungnapa Kemsamrong. Singapore persevered and Nasha Jeffri found the equaliser with a long-range shot that skipped past the Thai defence 26 seconds into the second period.
Both teams were closely matched in end-to-end action, but neither could find the back of the net. Thailand’s breakthrough came from Praphaphon Bunsuk three minutes into the final period, and Singapore could not find a way back despite displaying increased determination in search of the equaliser.
Captain and goalkeeper Shermaine Goh hailed the team’s resilience despite trailing almost the entire match.
She said: “It was a close fight and the team put in a really strong performance in the final and throughout the campaign. We never gave up, even when Thailand took the lead.
“I told them to keep pushing, to not give up and to keep the energy up. The Thailand players were slightly more aggressive, so we tried our best not to let them get into our heads.
“We prepared a lot leading up to today’s game, but we were a little unlucky with our shots and couldn’t convert them into goals. I will continue to work on myself and also help to strengthen the team’s defence even more.”
The 33rd SEA Games are held in Thailand from 9 to 20 December 2025. For the latest Team Singapore coverage and news, follow Team Singapore on their social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok) or visit the official Team Singapore website.
