ActiveGroove (AG) is a club under the family of ActiveSG academies and clubs to promote and encourage participation in street dancing. With the official inclusion of breakdancing under the name of “Breaking” in the Olympic Games, AG seeks to bring greater awareness to the sport and create more opportunities for our local street dancers to practise, perform and compete.
Initiatives include the organisation of the Lion City Dance Convention (with an inaugural version held in November 2021), and the opening of dance zones within ActiveSG Sport Centers for dancers to practise and forge stronger connections with fellow dance enthusiasts. AG will also partner other dance academies/clubs to bring quality programmes to our children and youth at the Sport Centres, enabling the community to live better through sport.

Dance zone is located within Yio Chu Kang Tennis Centre, just beside the outdoor tennis courts.
Seng Kang Sport Centre
Dance zone is located within Seng Kang swimming complex, entrance fee will apply for users.
Sport village @ Jurong town Sport Centre
Dance zone is located right at the lobby area.
How and where to book the dance zone?
ActiveSG App
Step 1: Where to book?
- Download ActiveSG App (Available both on Android or Apple)
- New users have to sign up/register an account with ActiveSG
- Existing users to log into the app
Step 2: Selection of Dance Zone
- Under facilities, search for: ActiveGroove Dance Zone
- Select preferred dance zone
- Add to to cart after selecting date and time
Step 3: Payment
- The app will have a prompt message to make payment
- Click PayNow and it should reflect $0.00
- Click on proceed to pay, followed by PayNow [No payment will be charged]
- Users will have to key in the 6-digit eWallet Pin to complete the booking
- A receipt will be sent to the registered email

There will be an entrance fee for Dance Zone located within ActiveSG swimming complexes.

Where to make payment for dance zone within the swimming complex?
There will be a QR code at the entrance of the pool for users to scan to make payment via ActiveSG app, before entering the dance zone.
How much is the entrance fee to the swimming complex?

Are dance users allowed to use the swimming pools if the dance zone is located within a swimming complex?
Dance users are allowed to utilise the pool with a swimming slot booking and proper attire.
What to do if users can't make it for the dance slot?
Please write in to activegroove@sport.gov.sg for the cancellation of dance slot. This will help ActiveGroove to free the time slot for other users to book the dance zone.
ActiveGroove Dance Zone Challenge
2023 challenge
ActiveGroove (AG) team organised a Dance Zone Challenge for individual youths to film themselves on getting to any ActiveGroove dance zones and utilising the area. The top 8 submissions were chosen by ActiveGroove team and the winners were rewarded $250 each in cash. The selected videos have been posted on ActiveGroove's Instagram and Tik Tok pages, the video with the most likes on AG Instagram account will win an additional of $500 in cash. The competition started on the 1st of December 2023 and ended on 31st January 2024. Voting will take place from 2nd February to 29th February 2024.

Lion City Dance Convention
Lion City Dance Convention (LCDC) is a street dance event organised by Active Groove and YouthCreates which are part of the ActiveSG’s Academies and Clubs’ portfolio. ActiveSG hopes to build and support a vibrant street dance community, through platforms such as this event for dancers to compete.
The team aims to support the street dance community by providing learning and competition opportunities with renowned dance studios in Singapore to widen the participation base.
This event is part of GetActive! Singapore to inspire Singaporeans both young and old to get up and get moving! From dance battles to fitness workouts and street games, there’s something for just about everyone to Play On and Play Together!
With the official announcement by the international olympics committee for the inclusion of Breaking into the games, Active Groove aims to develop programmes and competitions for the street dancers to expand their skills and advance to a higher level.

The 2021 edition of LCDC consists of street dance workshops (which were held in July) and two dance battle events: a) 1v1 Breaking and b) 2v2 Open Styles which will be held at the end of October. Dancers from all walks of life are welcome to participate in two age categories: 25 Years and Under Category and Open Category. 5 distinguished judges from the dance fraternity will be invited to judge the event.

Programme offerings
Looking for a sense of what street dance is all about? ActiveGroove works with various local dance studios and instructors to provide programmes that are best suited for participants with zero to no dance experience. The goal is for participants to be confident, comfortable and be able to express themselves through dancing. Some of the type of street dance genre are Breaking, Popping, Locking, Hip Hop, Choreography, Soul Dance and many more.

Discover the exciting world of street dance! This fun-filled programme teaches basic hip-hop moves, simple choreography, and rhythm in a supportive environment. Children will develop coordination, confidence, and creativity while making new friends through dance. Perfect for beginners aged 7-12. Participants with or without any dance background are welcome to register.
ActiveGroove Dance Intensive Programme (AGDIP)
AGDIP is an 8-week intensive programme that allows participants a unique opportunity to learn from the ActiveGroove-appointed instructor who will provide insights on translating dance techniques into the art of filmmaking, exploring the nuances of presenting the body effectively on stage versus in film and guiding the participants through the process of crafting a storyline and storyboarding for a film.
The instructor will oversee the completion of the dance piece and coordinate the final video shoot and also provide further instruction on adapting the choreography for live stage performance, in which, the instructor will be performing alongside the participants. This initiative is a novel addition to the current ActiveGroove offerings.
The culmination of the programme which features a video shoot is the final showcase piece and takeaway for the participants. It offers the participants a tangible representation of their dedication and hard work, providing them with a valuable portfolio piece and an acknowledgment for their effort and achievements. The participants will also be performing at the Lion City Dance Convention (LCDC) as their programme graduation showcase.

Bryan, a respected pioneer in Waacking and Soul Dance in Singapore, brings over 20 years of teaching experience to the ActiveGroove Dance Intensive Programme. Starting with Jazz and Ballet at 17, he expanded his expertise in Japan since 2006, mastering Hip Hop, Street Jazz, Waacking, and Soul Dance. Bryan excels at drawing out the best in his students, consistently challenging them to achieve technical and performance breakthroughs. As co-choreographer for Rocketeer Crew, he has guided the kids' crew to numerous competition victories. His credentials include serving as Deputy Head Coach for the National Team Programme Performance Cheer (Hip-Hop), where he led a junior team to bronze at the Junior World Cheerleading Championships. Given his pioneering status, extensive experience, and proven track record in developing competitive dancers, Bryan is an invaluable mentor for the programme. |
