It was a memorable fifth day of competition for Team Singapore at the Asian Youth Games 2025, as the nation’s young athletes continued to show heart, resilience, and progress across multiple sports — capped off by a historic first medal of the Games.

In a proud moment for the Singapore contingent, Jiang Yunfan claimed Singapore’s first medal of the Asian Youth Games, winning bronze in the Boys’ Pole Vault Final with a clearance of 4.4 metres, a personal best. His achievement marked a breakthrough for Team Singapore in athletics and a highlight of the nation’s campaign so far. In other athletics events, Lam Xin Kristel finished 9th in the Girls’ Javelin Throw Final with a distance of 40.1 metres, while Lee Yu Foong (Li Yufeng) placed 7th in the Boys’ Discus Throw Final with a best throw of 46.03 metres, both showing great determination against a strong field.

In Taekwondo, Singapore’s young exponents gained valuable experience on the mats. Yap Feng Qi Javis fell 0–2 to Samandarov Asadbek (Uzbekistan) in the Boys’ -55kg Round of 32, while Chaykun Zlata lost 0–2 to Lotfizadeh Gabalou Pinar (Iran) in the Girls’ -63kg Round of 16, both bowing out after commendable efforts.

It was a busy day for Team Singapore in Table Tennis, with several strong performances in the group stages. Loy Ming Ying began her Girls’ Singles Group G campaign with a convincing 3–0 victory over Kuwait’s Alshammari Fatmah, setting a confident tone for her next match. On the boys’ side, Lau Yi Yuan Benjamin swept Yemen’s Shabil Abdulrahman Yahya Saleh 3–0 in Group S, while Seah Shih Luck Benaiah started impressively with a 3–0 win over Cambodia’s To Kim Joe in Group R. Chiang Rui En, Janelle also made a strong start, defeating Syria’s Wasouf Sara 3–0 in Group O.

As the evening progressed, the matches became tougher. Tristen Yee Rui Bing fell 0–3 to Yu Yi-Cing (Chinese Taipei) in Group P, while Lau Yi Yuan Benjamin lost 1–3 to Soiphuang Nimit (Thailand). Benjamin remains in contention, with his next match scheduled against Bangladesh’s Rahman Mhatabur. Seah Shih Luck continued his excellent run, edging Qatar’s Abdalla Yousif 3–2 to advance to the Round of 64, keeping Singapore’s hopes alive in the boys’ singles event. Janelle Chiang faced a challenging opponent in Hong Kong’s Wong Tsz Yui, going down 0–3, and Chong Zi Sian fell 0–3 to China’s Yao Ruixuan. Both athletes are looking to bounce back in their next group matches.

In Equestrian, the Jumping Individual Final saw Yasmine Isabelle Bonehill and Chiara Mei Corbi give their best efforts but both were eliminated after challenging rounds.

As Day 5 concluded, Team Singapore celebrated the first medal of the Games and several spirited displays across different sports. The performances reflected the team’s growing confidence, determination, and unity — hallmarks of a young generation proudly representing the nation on the Asian stage.
