Team Singapore continued its strong showing on the last day of competition at the Asian Youth Games. It was a remarkable day, highlighted by two silver medals, a new national record and many valuable experiences that will benefit these young athletes in the days to come.

Swimming
At the Bahrain Aquatics Centre, Singapore’s swimmers produced a string of inspiring performances. In the Boys’ 50m Breaststroke, Zavv Lee Xian Le set the tone early by clocking 28.58 in the heats, a new U17 national record, to qualify second overall for the final. He went even faster in the evening session, touching the wall in 28.53 to claim the silver medal, rewriting the record books once again. Benjamin Tan also impressed with a time of 29.80, finishing ninth overall during the heats.

Another highlight came from Reagan Cheng Kuo Shiong, who dominated his Boys’ 200m Individual Medley heat with a time of 2:07.13. He then continued his strong form to claim the silver in the final with a time of 2:06.66. It was another strong showing from the versatile swimmer, who swam in backstroke events earlier in the meet. Ho Chong Yan also represented Singapore in the same event, finishing 20th overall in 2:19.01.

In the Girls’ 200m Individual Medley, Yo Ee Xin Megan Janice advanced to the final after placing seventh in the heats with 2:25.12. She delivered another composed performance to finish fifth overall in 2:22.27, improving her time significantly. Her teammate Julia Yeo Shu Ning placed 14th overall with a time of 2:29.52. In the Girls’ 200m Butterfly, Teo Jing Wen Heather also made it to the final, where she clocked 2:22.57 to finish seventh overall, improving from her heats time of 2:23.07.

In the Boys’ 200m Butterfly, Lim Zhequan Lawrence finished ninth overall in 2:09.91, while Julian Lee Xing Hong placed 15th with 2:12.91. On the other hand, the Girls’ 50m Breaststroke saw Neo Joy Ning Suan achieve a new personal best of 34.71 to finish 13th overall. Her teammate, Chew En Vivienne, came in 15th with 34.77 to round off the individual events by our Team Singapore swimmers.

The Mixed 4x100m Freestyle Relay team of Chew En Vivienne, Tan Yonghao, Tedd Windsor Chan III Heng Kai, and Yo Ee Xin Megan Janice also put up a commendable showing, finishing 10th overall with a time of 3:48.66. This capped off the splendid showing of our Team Singapore swimmers at the Asian Youth Games, bringing home one Gold, three Silvers and one Bronze from the meet.

Beach Wrestling

Over at the Beach Wrestling arena, Team Singapore’s wrestlers made their debut appearance on the sand. Soh Yew Lun, competing in the Boys’ 60kg category, faced Jassim Mohammed M Alsaud of Saudi Arabia in the qualifying round. He displayed composure and effort before going down 3–0. In the Boys’ 70kg category, Emiliano Sim Hui Heng fought bravely against Ahmed Alkayyadi, scoring a point before losing 3–1. While both wrestlers did not advance, their performances marked an important milestone for Singapore wrestling, gaining valuable experience against top regional competition.

The last day of competition at the Asian Youth Games was another demonstration of Singapore’s depth of talent and competitive spirit. With two silver medals, a national record, and several personal bests, Team Singapore’s young athletes continue to inspire with their dedication and unity.

The contingent brought home a total of two Golds, three Silvers and two Bronzes from their campaign at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain. Each performance from each of the athletes reflects the heart, passion and pride as the nation’s future sporting stars make their mark on the continental stage.
