The Active Lifestyler's Guide to the New ActiveSG Delta Sport Centre
It goes without saying that we all understand the benefits of maintaining a balanced diet and keeping fit, but being physically active also yields other intangible benefits, such as allaying fears and anxieties, and uplifting your spirit.
Now, if you’re looking to make your active lifestyle a habit, why not come check out ActiveSG Delta Sport Centre with us to see if it meets your needs?
ActiveSG Delta Sport Centre - Bigger, Better, and More
ActiveSG Delta Sport Centre, previously known as Delta Sport and Recreation Centre, is easily accessible from the main bus stops by walking along the overhead bridge and sheltered pathways linking you to the main entrance. It certainly is a plus point if you don’t usually carry a brolly everywhere you go.
ActiveSG Delta Sport Centre is also within walking distance from Redhill MRT Station, suitable for days when you feel like burning the extra calories off an overindulgent meal.
Despite being nestled in a mature residential estate, the facility complex is anything but old and run-down. In fact, it was given a major overhaul in 2019; apart from its rejuvenated core facilities, upgrades and additions to the site were done so as to boost its overall conduciveness and inclusivity.
Nothing Complex About the Swimming Complex
Other than shielding you from the occasional inclement weather, the Centre’s 1-metre deep sheltered teaching pool has a built-in ramp inside the pool to support the disabled for a smooth, gradual, barrier-free descent into the water. With lifeguards stationed around the swimming complex, rendering help to potential distressed swimmers, aquatic hazards are further minimised.
At the attention-grabbing open space water recreational area, swimmers young and old can wind down after an invigorating swim at the main swimming pool. Of course, it makes for a perfect wet playground for your kids to linger and play with water.
Overall, the pool facilities at ActiveSG Delta Sport Centre are thoughtfully constructed for anyone who enjoys seeking solace in the waters.
Keeping Your Workouts on Track
Another highlight is the large, multi-purpose ActiveSG Gym on the second level. Spacious and airy, it boasts the latest exercise gears and equipment, and even sports an indoor running track. There’s also a dedicated resting area located at the gym’s entrance/exit for when you need to catch a breather in between repetitions.
Want to give the new gym a trial run? Feel free to enquire with the friendly gym staff to sign up for a trial session, preferably during non-peak hours on weekdays.
The Ball is in Your (Many) Courts
You can share the joy and camaraderie of team sport with their friends through the many curated spaces for each particular sport.
At Delta Sport Centre, expect:
- 4 futsal courts
- 6 badminton courts
- 3x3 basketball court
- 2 TTX table tennis tables
- 1 hockey field
The hockey field is one of 5 facilities across Singapore. Besides the occasional school, national, and international hockey matches and tournaments, these pitches also host youth training programmes by the ActiveSG Hockey Academy in partnership with the Singapore Hockey Federation. Much care is given to ensure that the playing field is drenched at an optimal level for players’ safety. For the uninitiated, the pitch has to be sprinkled wet to keep the hockey ball grounded and control roll speeds so as to avoid unnecessary accidents.
Exercise is Medicine
Further into the Centre, you’ll find the recently launched Active Health Lab, where you can opt for a series of comprehensive fitness and health assessments guided by accredited coaches, who will then offer personalised recommendations based on your readings for a more well-rounded exercise regimen.
Mere exercising alone is barely sufficient if you desire to level up and achieve a particular outcome. Active Health Lab value-adds by supporting every step of your health and wellness journey based on the setting of your vision and goals. This results in a more fruitful journey.
Highly recommended to those who are exercising to manage conditions, for example, those suffering from diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. The lab’s targeted programmes track your progress periodically, ensuring that the proposed plan is sustainable in the long run. Senior citizens also reap from Active Health Lab by participating in the sarcopenia screening for age-related progressive loss of performance, and managing osteoarthritis with exercise.
If you belong to any of these targeted groups, remember to make a mental note to check out Active Health Lab!
Eat for Good
Don’t forget to check out Juice Stories, a social enterprise cafe located at the far end of ActiveSG Delta Sport Centre. Managed by seniors together with individuals with special needs, the cafe advocates the benefits of ‘slow food’. Its brightly lit, aesthetic foliage furnishings, and electrical plugs available for remote work make for some good, undisrupted me-time, not to mention the food and beverages ooze such homey vibes; perfect replenishment for the soul after a gruelling workout!
