A Sporting Journey
Did you know that three editions of the Thomas Cup (men's badminton world team championships) in 1952, 1955 and 1958 were played in Singapore?
How and why did Singapore host the three tournaments? Where were the badminton matches played at?
These events came at a time when interest in sport was growing in leaps and bounds; a time that is described as the beginning of a golden age of sport in Singapore. Go on a sporting journey that will take you from Geylang to Kallang, past sites and venues connected with the Thomas Cup, and discover a few places that have also played a significant role in the development of sport in Singapore. The highlight of the walking tour will be a visit to the "Beginning of a Golden Age of Sport in Singapore (Late 1940s to 1950s)" exhibition, which is being held at the Singapore Sports Museum at Singapore Sports Hub.
The tour, which is being organised by Sport Singapore, will be led by Jerome Lim.
