Adopting Athlete-Centred and Safe Sporting Practices

With growing awareness of Safe Sport, it is crucial for coaches to recognize the grey areas in coaching practices-behaviours that may not be criminal offenses but still constitute misconduct under the Safe Sport Unified Code. Many of these behaviours stem from outdated coaching norms, a lack of education, or an unawareness of their potential impact on athletes.

This workshop will delve into these grey areas, exploring their effects on young athletes' development and well-being. Through interactive discussions, participants will learn how to identify, address, and prevent such behaviours while adopting coaching practices that align with Safe Sport principles.

Speaker’s Profile

Syahirah leads the training and education work for Safe Sport in Singapore, shaping its development since 2018. With a Masters in Organisational Psychology, she has developed the training framework, curricula and content for diverse sports stakeholders. She has conducted numerous workshops, from awareness to sport-specific safeguarding and first responder training. She has also built partnerships and guided Sporting Organisations in their policies and case management work. Syahirah served as a Safeguarding Officer at the Paris Olympics and also as Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Safeguarding Instructor and is a coach educator.
