On Day 7 (12 May) of the Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia, our Team Singapore athletes competed in a wide range of sporting disciplines. And here's a selection of updates and post-match interviews from our athletes, after their respective team sports matches.

 

Beach Volleyball 

The Republic's Beach Volleyball Women's teams competed against Indonesia in their 2nd group qualifiers. This was after Singapore's 2-0 win over Cambodia on 11 May. 

TeamSG vs Indonesia (Results) : 0-2

Cecilia Soh and Alicia Tan               (Team 1) : 15-21, 7-21 
Eliza Chong and Phua Zhao Rong (Team 2) : 7-21, 6-21

With 1 win and a loss, the Republic's hopes of a semi-final place will only be determined, following the completion of the round-robin matches on 14 May. Meanwhile, here's a post-match interview with Games debutant, Phua Zhao Rong (see below)

Singapore's Beach Volleyball Men's teams were also in action, as they faced Malaysia in their 2nd group qualifiers. This was after Singapore's 2-0 loss to Thailand on 11 May.

Melvin Goh and Trevis Tan (Team 1) : 21-14, 18-21, 9-15
Kingsley Tay and Mark Shen (Team 2) : 21-16, 21-10

Kingsley and Trevis (Golden Match) : 21-16, 20-22, 15-11

Floorball 

Following their opening 16-0 defeat of Cambodia on 11 May, our Women's team was back in action on the very next day against Malaysia. And once again, the defending champions showcased their mettle as TeamSG outplayed their opponents, 13-0! Their next match is against the Philippines on 14 May. Field Hockey 

Singapore's women's team drew 2-2 against Indonesia in their opening match of Cambodia 2023 earlier in the week. And on 12 May, powerhouse Malaysia maintained their regional dominance by defeating TeamSG 4-1. With 1 draw and a loss, the Republic will be looking for their 1st win, when they face Cambodia on 13 May, before facing another strong opponent (Thailand) in their final group qualifier. Meanwhile, here's a quick post-match interview with team captain, Ho Puay Lim (see below)

Water Polo 

Following their opening 12-7 victory over Thailand on 12 May, Singapore's men's team faced Malaysia a day later. And with more than 100 Singaporean supporters in the grandstand, the Men's squad delivered a commanding performance and defeated Malaysia 14-1!

Indoor Volleyball 

On 11 May, Singapore's Women's squad took on the Philippines. But despite a valiant performance, they were beaten 3-0. So with 1 win in 3 matches, TeamSG will play Myanmar on 13 May in a match which will determine, if they'll feature in a top-6 finish playoff clash on 14 May.
