It's been hailed as the largest annual countdown campaign to the nation's birthday. Since its inception in 2016 by Sport Singapore, GetActive! Singapore (GASG) has reached out to hundreds of thousands across the island, with the main objective of using sport as a prelude to celebrating National Day. With every passing year, the GASG campaign gained momentum, while programmes and events started to be more creative and inclusive. And by 2023, the annual 12-day celebration had also been included in the larger scheme of things, especially with fireworks taking place at 5 sporting venues during the Heartland Festivals.
This year's GASG campaign was organised to its full scale of activities and programmes, prior to the start of the global pandemic. Counting down to the nation's 58th birthday celebrations on 9 August, Singaporeans of all ages had a wide spectrum of sporting activities to participate in.
8 years in, a highlight of GASG for Sport Singapore continues to be the coming together of the organization’s workforce, as staff from across all divisions take on assignments beyond their usual job scopes and duties, truly exemplifying the Sport Singapore way: a passion for sport, strength through teamwork and care for its people. This also includes hundreds of Team Nila volunteers, event organizers and partners, making GASG 2023 a resounding success.

From the Singapore Sports Hub to the five ActiveSG Sport Centres of the Sport Festivals and Heartland Festivals, the Kallang Practice Track and other venues islandwide, Sport Singapore staff and Team Nila Volunteers were out in full force to bring the positive vibes of GASG to the masses. Staff across all levels (including senior management), were also part of the hands-on organising/running of events on the ground. After months of pre-planning for this gigantic task, Sport Singapore came together to stage the annual extravaganza in a safe, exciting and joy-filled manner, using Sport as a way to celebrate the nation's birthday.
