A former triathlete turned water polo player, Wilson Ang has 16 years of coaching experience at numerous educational institutions and has been a coach at the ActiveSG Water Polo Academy since 2020.

Reminiscing about his favourite moments at ActiveSG, Wilson recalled fondly about being shown appreciation on Coaches Day when the players thanked him for inspiring them. He said, simple gesture like when they make time to show appreciation to their coaches after every training. More importantly, knowing that my players have imbibe good values and character through the sport of water polo.

One of the most rewarding things to Wilson is having his players graduate from his programme as transformed individuals having built character and acquired valuable life skills and values that they can apply beyond sport. Although all his players come from varied backgrounds and progress at their own pace, he hoped for them to gain meaningful experiences from his programmes.

His coaching philosophy is that you may not start off well in your water polo journey. But by the time you finish my training programme, it will be the best experience you will ever have. He hopes to work more closely with youth, to steer them in a positive direction through their love and passion for sport.

As a parent, Wilson devotes time to his teenage son and twin daughters who enjoy multiple sport and netball respectively. He encourages them to be active, provides opportunities and supports them in pursuing the ones they enjoy more. When asked to advise parents with children undergoing sport training, he said, keep an open mind and allow your child to develop different talents through sport participation.
