You might have walked past the Active Health Lab whenever you utilise the sport recreational spaces at any of the sport centres, but you either continued on your way, or curiously peered in but were hesitant to enter the compound for some reason.
To whet your appetite, we’re serving up some specially brewed tea on what happens behind the scenes at your Active Health Lab!
MEASURING IS KNOWING
At Active Health Lab, participants are given the option to choose between guided or self assessment.
With a fitness & health assessment guided by our accredited coaches, you can easily determine where around your body you need to work on, and how much. This assessment comprises a few components, such as body composition, walking analysis, and group health coaching dialogues where our coaches help participants understand the data presented to them. Expect coaches to dole out health tips and recommendations that empower you to craft a wellness vision, as well as set sustainable fitness goals during the dialogue session. Similar to how athletes set specific, timely, attainable goals, visioning and goal-setting helps you to stay focused on your desired outcomes.
Active Health recognises that your journey to sustainable fitness and health hinges on the periodic tracking of progress. As such, our coaches are unwavering in their support by recommending suitable sport interest groups and workshops organized by both ActiveSG and Active Health.
For those who prefer independence, you’ll be relieved to know that self-assessment is also an option via ActiveFit machines available at selected ActiveSG Sport Centres, and can be completed in an hour. To avoid disappointment, do book your Fitness and Health Assessment via the ActiveSG app.
As you can see, half the battle is won when you arm yourself with real-time intel about your body that instantly maps out the strategy to an active life. The other half of the battle left to conquer is really putting wisdom into action - exercising consistently. Attaining fitness and health goals are no longer a hit or miss when you partner with Active Health.
The next time you pass by an Active Health Lab, take a moment to check out what’s in store and measure up!
MOVE BETTER: EXERCISE IS MEDICINE
You know that medicine is the miracle to healing. But do you know that exercise is a form of medication that can manage conditions and ease discomfort?
Yes, you read that right. People who suffer from certain medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity and osteoarthritis can stabilise their conditions via exercise programmes guided by personalised pre- and post-exercise assessments at the Active Health Lab. These targeted programmes aim to instill confidence in participants by using the appropriate exercises in managing existing conditions.
Due to its highly personalised nature, participants will be under the supervision of our Active Health coach, ensuring that their clients’ safety is uncompromised in the name of fitness and health.
Aiming to delay or slow down the physical effects of ageing as well as increasing muscle balance, Active Health hosts an array of senior-centric activities too, such as Discovery Walk in the Park, Combat Age-Related Loss of Muscle programme, square-stepping, and even floor curling.
REST BETTER: DON’T LET THE SCREENTIME BITE
Long workdays plus hours of recreational screen time can have long-term impact on our well-being, such as lower mental performance, cognitive function, and processing speed. Additionally, if you find yourself waking up frequently through the night or feel tired even after sleeping for more than seven hours, there is a good chance that you are suffering from poor sleep quality.
Here are some tips from our Active Health coaches that can help you sleep better.
- Refrain from any screen time 30 minutes before bedtime.
- Turn off all mobile device alerts when going to bed.
- Wake up at a consistent time every day (within 1 hour).
- Be screen-free whenever you can (breakfast, lunch and dinner).
- Be in bed with eyes closed for at least 7.5 hours before you have to wake up.
