All you need to know about the HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens 2023
Are you ready for an exhilarating experience? The HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens is back this April, promising a thrilling event for rugby fans, families, and anyone who loves fun and excitement. This year's event will feature gripping rugby action, family-friendly activities, and a feast for the senses that will leave you craving for more.
What is Rugby Sevens?
Rugby Sevens is played on a full-size pitch by teams of seven players. The games are much shorter in duration compared to the traditional 15s rugby, with each half lasting seven minutes.
Event Overview
The HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens first hit local shores back in 2002, with New Zealand claiming the inaugural title against Argentina after a nail-biting 21-17 victory. Singapore has crowned 5 different champions since then, over 10 seasons. After a pandemic-enforced hiatus, the Rugby Sevens made a welcome return last year, with Fiji claiming their third title after beating New Zealand.
If you want to be part of the action, get your tickets before they sell out! You don't want to miss out on the excitement, so bring your friends and family and come see the world's top rugby sevens teams compete for precious points as they eye a chance to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. With 16 countries battling it out, anything can happen! Will Fiji defend their crown? Will current league leader and 2-time champion New Zealand thunder for a win? Or will the other 2-time winner in South Africa emerge victorious?
Off-Pitch Action
But the Singapore Sevens is more than just rugby action. It's also an opportunity to meet some of the legends of the sport. Catch South Africa's Tendai 'Beast' Mtawarira, 2019 Rugby World Cup Winner, as he checks out the fun zones with Canada's Nathan Hirayama, third all-time points-scorer on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. Joining them is New Zealand's Shiray Kaka, Olympic Gold medallist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Bronze medallist at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. And if you're an aspiring player yourself, don't miss the Titans Ruck and Rumble, a series of rugby tournaments for boys and girls of all ages.
Families will love the wide range of fun activities available at the Singapore Sevens. Drop off your kids aged 4 to 7 years old at the Kids Drop-Off Zone, where they can enjoy hours of engaging programmes while you take in the rugby action. Or, join the Singapore Sevens Easter Egg Hunt for some fun family-bonding time. If you need to cool off after all the hunting, head to the Stingray®, the world's first half-pipe surfing machine, or join your kids for a splashing good time at Splash-N-Surf. Relax on a beanbag and catch clips of the Minions or bring your young ones to a meet-and-greet at the screening zone.
As the sun goes down, spectators can channel their inner Jedi or Sith at the Lightsaber Duelling workshops or relive the groovy 70s at the Roller Kids & Roller Disco Zones. There's also a meet-and-greet at the screening zone for young ones to catch clips of the Minions.
The event is not only a feast for rugby enthusiasts but also a sensorial feast that hits all the right spots. Fuel up with delicious food, from juicy burgers and chips to delicious popsicles. After the day's action on the pitch, head over to OCBC Square to enjoy live action with a different beat, with 53A & Jack & Rai serenading the crowd, or dance the night away with DJs EPIMACO & XEN, 10 Seconds, NationOne, Reverie, Sambiesta, THE PROFESSOR, and SIRKID.
Finally, seven lucky ticket holders will have the chance to win The Ultimate Singapore Sevens Experience. The prize includes an exclusive invitation to meet all 16 team captains in person, an exclusive invitation to a fireside chat with Rugby Ambassadors and five invitations to the Rugby Ambassadors meet-and-greet session. The competition is open to all ticket holders, and all they have to do is tell why they deserve to win.
From gripping rugby action, to fun family activities, and a sensorial feast, the HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens offers something for everyone. Do not forget to get your tickets before they sell out, and who knows, you may even be one of the lucky seven to win The Ultimate Singapore Sevens Experience!
