2023 marked the return of the full 15-a-side format for the sport of Rugby in the National School Games (NSG). Due to Covid-19, the NSG was cancelled after just 2 months of action in 2020, followed by the total absence of the School Games in the 2021 season. In 2022 however, all 28 sporting disciplines were allowed to resume, with certain safe management measures in place such as the Rugby competition being amended to the 7-a-side format.
In the Bowl competition last year, Greenridge Secondary School (GSS) defeated Evergreen Sec (EVG) 29-20 in the Rugby 7s finals. And just before the finale, Junyuan Secondary grinded out a 41-0 victory over Bt Batok Sec to lift the Bronze medal in the Bowl competition. Meanwhile, 12 months later at the Singapore Sports Hub, the EVGians went from losing finalists in 2022 to claiming the Bowl championship, after their 31-15 triumph over Junyuan Sec. And former champions Greenridge Sec had to settle for a 4th-place finish, after succumbing to a 17-16 loss to Admiralty Secondary School.
